SOLAR for Puerto Rico
ABOUT SOLAR FOR PUERTO RICO
In September 2017, hurricanes Irma and Maria slammed Puerto Rico back to back leaving the island's 3.4 million people without electricity.
Even today many Puerto Ricans, especially those living in the remote sections of the island, still lack stable electricity access.
Our first projects were to provide small solar-and-battery kits throughout Puerto Rico in the first to support critical nighttime lighting, cell phone charging, fans, radios, and anything else that can be powered by a USB connection.
These days we're promoting public and stakeholder access to crucial solar policy issues on the island.
Ultimately, we're supporting the general transition of Puerto Rico to sustainable and resilient energy systems.
Applications for the Solar for Puerto Rico Summer Program are now open, available to all college students around the world with some Spanish skills and a passion for solar energy. No experience with solar energy or electronics is required, just an attitude of willing to learn!
