What is Solar for Puerto Rico?

Solar for Puerto Rico is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization that works towards the general transition to sustainable and resilient energy systems in Puerto Rico. Since Hurricane Maria, Solar for Puerto Rico has distributed over 750 small solar-and-battery kits throughout the island. These kits power essentials such as nighttime lighting, cell phone charging, fans, radios, medical equipment, and small appliances. Most importantly, Solar for Puerto Rico provides crucial education on how to access and use solar technology.

Why do an internship in Puerto Rico?

Months have passed since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans do not have electricity or a generator to power their house. Many of the Puerto Ricans that do have power rely on gas-powered generators. Not only is the cost of gas expensive, but the use of generators is unsustainable and they are not designed to be used continuously, posing a serious health hazard to those who are dependent on them. Puerto Ricans are in desperate need for aid.
